Reporting and Blogging About MWC Conference Tournament Experience

Josh Hoffman is a journalism student at SDSU and an intern with the university’s Media Relations and New Media department.

As an aspiring journalist and a sports fanatic, I entered myself in the Mountain West Conference’s Ultimate Fan Reporter Challenge last month. The competition prompted students from MWC-affiliated universities to submit a Youtube video about why he/she should be chosen as the Ultimate Fan Reporter at the 2011 Conoco MWC basketball championships in Las Vegas.

After narrowing down the competition to four finalists, the MWC posted each video on its new Youtube page and asked fans to vote for the contestant who they believe should be the Ultimate Fan Reporter by “liking” his/her video. On Monday, Feb. 21, the MWC announced I won the competition.

As the Ultimate Fan Reporter at the conference championships, I will be interviewing select coaches and players after each men’s and women’s semifinal and championship games this Friday and Saturday, respectively. The interviews will be available on TheMWC.com, as well as on the conference’s Youtube page.

I will also be blogging via the official blog of SDSU Marketing and Communications about my experiences at the conference tournament this weekend. Check back here often to follow along.

Until next time, Go Aztecs!
