Aztecs advance to MWC tournament championship bout on Gay’s game-winner

Day four of the Mountain West Conference basketball championships in Las Vegas concluded with a bang in the form of a DJ Gay game-winning shot with just seconds remaining in regulation. The SDSU senior guard sent the Aztecs to their second straight MWC tournament championship game appearance.

With UNLV essentially playing a home game at the Thomas & Mack Center, the Runnin’ Rebel faithful largely out-numbered and drowned out the SDSU fans in attendance throughout most of the game, but the last sounds heard from the stands Friday night were from the Aztec aficionados following the 74-72 SDSU victory.

Keep it locked here for more coverage of tournament championship day, as well as my one-on-one interview with SDSU head coach Steve Fisher after last night’s win. And don’t forget, the Aztecs and BYU Cougars play at 4 p.m. PT today on Versus for the 2011 MWC tournament championship.

Until next time, Go Aztecs!
